Aruba wins the 50th Senior League Baseball World Series, 8-1
Magical ride ends for host Maine District 3
Aruba South Little League, of San Nicolas, Aruba, defeated host Maine District 3 champion Bangor East/West L.L., of Bangor 8-1 Saturday to capture the 50th Senior League Baseball World Series title.
Aruba’s victory ended the magical run by Maine District 3, which had never won more than a single game in a series since the event moved to Bangor in 2002. The victory also capped a year-long mission by the Arubans to overcome their loss in last year’s semifinal round.
Shawn Duinkerk got the complete game win, throwing 51 of his 78 pitches for strikes. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander – who bats left-handed – was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in. Chadwick Tromp had a two-run home run in the five-run seventh for the Latin America champ.
For Bangor, Josiah Hartley went 2-for-4 at the plate.
