Vice President and Nobel Peace laureate Al Gore to speak at Green Energy Conference on Aruba
ORANJESTAD – Former vice president of the U.S.A. and Nobel Peace laureate Al Gore will be the keynote speaker at the opening of the conference “Our Future with Green Energy” in Aruba on September 29, 2010, the Dutch Caribbean island’s minister of finance, communication, utilities and energy and conference host, Mike de Meza announced Friday.
“We are happy, proud and most honored to be able to announce that Mr. Al Gore, former vice president of the United States of America and Nobel Peace laureate has accepted to be the keynote speaker at our first conference on green energy,” De Meza announced at a press conference. “Vice President Gore is one of the most important driving forces behind the green awareness movement. The wisdom of Mr. Gore’s words will be of great value to our delegates as well,” Minister De Meza added.
Albert Arnold “Al” Gore Jr. (Washington D.C., March 31, 1948) was the 45th Vice President of the United States of America. The Nobel Prize in Peace 2007 was awarded jointly to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Mr. Gore "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".
Vice President Gore has been a much requested speaker at international debates and meetings on sustainability since the year 2000. He most passionately expresses his concern for the ecological evolution of our planet and the role of the individual herein. The documentary Mr. Gore and the IPCC produced on global warming won an Oscar at the 75th Academy Awards for Best Documentary on February 25, 2007. This documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” will be shown at various locations on Aruba prior to the Green Aruba 2010 conference.
The Government of Aruba has a very ambitious green agenda. Twenty percent of the energy needed to produce potable water and electricity is already being harvested provided by the island’s first windmill park. Making use of the available sustainable energy sources, namely sun, ocean and wind, the government aims to double this percentage in the coming two years.
From September 29 through October 1, the government of Aruba and the local utilities companies WEB Aruba N.V., N.V. ELMAR and Utilities Aruba N.V. will host the first international conference on green energy for Aruba with as theme “Our Future with Green Energy”. During the conference international experts will present the latest technologies and developments in state of the art alternative, sustainable energy technologies and their practical use in the Caribbean.
At a tradeshow geared towards increasing national and regional awareness on the everyday use of sustainable energy tools in the home and business, on October 1, 2 and 3, the general public is offered the opportunity to get better acquainted with a numerous green technologies.

The Aruba Fashion Week Will Break New Ground for the Caribbean/Latin Region
During a press conference at his offices on Tuesday, August 24, Minister of Tourism Otmar Oduber presented the latest groundbreaking event that is hoped to become another annual tradition to enhance the “Aruban Experience.” The government has approved a proposal by resident fashionistas collaborating with IMG, the world’s most diverse media entertainment company, which produces over 20 fashion weeks around the world, to conduct Aruba Fashion Week 2010 during the first week of November.
IMG, which stages the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, is also one of the largest global cross-media companies, insuring Aruba Fashion Week will be presented well on television, Internet and in thousands of printed publications. This will be their first such production in the Caribbean and Latin region; local producers related that IMG representatives were very excited about the prospect upon scouting the island in May, considering Aruba a “prefect venue” for a distinctive fashion week with a unique character.
Aruba’s organizing team, which presented the project, consists of renowned local designer Ronchi de Cuba, Eva Wever, and Damalice Mansur. The three have many years experience in organi zing spectacular media events, including the annual Aruba Model Search, as well as international connections in the world of fashion.
Aruba Fashion Week will be four solid days of international and local models walking the runway coupled with exciting activities that attract celebrities from around the world. It is expected to be well attended and promoted and covered by global press and Minister Oduber expressed it would attract a prosperous tourist market that loves to shop and will be attracted to the many venues on Aruba offering top designer goods.
The agreement between the Aruba Fashion Week producers and the government, which is financing the project, was signed during the announcement. Aruba Fashion Week 2011 is tentatively scheduled for November 3 to 6.

Aruba wins the 50th Senior League Baseball World Series, 8-1
Magical ride ends for host Maine District 3
Aruba South Little League, of San Nicolas, Aruba, defeated host Maine District 3 champion Bangor East/West L.L., of Bangor 8-1 Saturday to capture the 50th Senior League Baseball World Series title.
Aruba’s victory ended the magical run by Maine District 3, which had never won more than a single game in a series since the event moved to Bangor in 2002. The victory also capped a year-long mission by the Arubans to overcome their loss in last year’s semifinal round.
Shawn Duinkerk got the complete game win, throwing 51 of his 78 pitches for strikes. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander – who bats left-handed – was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three runs batted in. Chadwick Tromp had a two-run home run in the five-run seventh for the Latin America champ.
For Bangor, Josiah Hartley went 2-for-4 at the plate.
